ABOUT OUR MUSIC TEACHERS

Susan Fry-Wickard is celebrating her 25th year teaching music in Pennsylvania. She sings in Cantate Carlisle, serves as an accompanist at a studio in Lancaster for a former Metropolitan opera singer and is celebrating her 15th year as organist and choir director at Zion UCC. She just completed a 3-year certification in Kodaly at Hartt School of Music. She loves teaching middle school age children, and looks forward to this year’s musical in May.

Christine Ream
graduated from Penn State with a B.S. in Music Education and from Lebanon Valley College with a Master's in Music Education. She has also completed post-graduate study through Lebanon Valley College, Indiana Weslyan University, Walden University, and Gratz College. Mrs. Ream lives in Mechanicsburg with her husband, Jeff, her daughter, Sadie, and two black cats, Abby and Sammy. Mrs. Ream and her husband work in the fall, winter, and spring months as adjudicators for the National Judges Association at events sponsored by Tournament of Bands and the Tournament Indoor Association. They also serve as the Region Coordinators for TOB/TIA Region 6. In her spare time, Mrs. Ream helps to manage guardcloset.com, an online store for used and new color guard and band equipment. This business helps schools and other arts organizations recoup budgeted funds by doing consignment sales of used equipment. Mrs. Ream's main instrument is the French Horn, but she also enjoys playing other instruments as well! In the summer, you can see Mrs. Ream playing French Horn with the Greater Harrisburg Concert Band. In 2012, she recorded a new CD with the band called "Worldwinds."

Sara Schmehl is the Middle School Orchestra teacher for the Carlisle Area School District and works in two Middle School buildings: Lamberton Middle School and Wilson Middle School. She began teaching in this position in August 2010. Prior to this, she spent two years teaching in the elementary string program at Carlisle, 8 years teaching elementary general music and chorus in Carlisle, and 10 years teaching elementary general music and chorus in the Annville-Cleona School District. She is a 1986 graduate of Lebanon Valley College, where she received a BS in Music Education. She also holds an MEd degree from Millersville University in Elementary Education, and an MEd degree from Millersville University in Gifted Education with an emphasis in Fine Arts, and is currently pursuing coursework for a Music Supervisory Certificate. In addition to her school teaching, Mrs. Schmehl is musically active in a variety of ways. She has worked as a professional accompanist for the Pennsylvania Suzuki Association's Summer Institute, the Harrisburg Singers, and for various local studio recitals. She is also active in the music program at Trinity Lutheran Church, Camp Hill - playing in the adult handbell choir, serving as accompanist for the Matins and Chancel Choirs, and directing the Youth String ensemble "Trinity Strings". Mrs. Schmehl has also served as a private lesson instructor in her home and through the Lebanon Valley College Community Music Institute. She worked for 6 years as a church Director of Music and organist, taught preschool music classes through the Lower Paxton Township Recreation Department, worked as a Music Director with Annville Community Theater, and plays professionally when the opportunity arises.
