Coronavirus Notification: March 11, 2020

March 11, 2020

Dear Carlisle Area School District Families and Staff:

The situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) is rapidly changing. It is important for the District to maintain open communication regarding our ongoing measures to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community. First, I want to assure you that the District does not, at this time, have any presumed or confirmed COVID-19 cases. While I am hopeful that this remains the situation, the District is taking the following preemptive measures to prepare for multiple scenarios:

• Communicating consistently with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Cumberland County Department of Public Safety, and other agencies.
• Communicating frequently with buildings about preventive measures and practices.
• Scheduling additional cleaning measures in buildings and classrooms.
• Reviewing all upcoming field trips (both in and out of state) on a case-by-case basis.
• Evaluating extracurricular activities, performances, and gatherings.
• Developing contingency plans in the event of a school closure.

A thoughtful and prudent approach is best as we prioritize public safety without unnecessary disruptions or panic. The District will continue to provide regular updates to you as appropriate as we work closely with federal, state, and local agencies and health officials. All official District updates and information regarding COVID-19 will be sent to you via our SchoolMessenger notification system by text, email, or phone. District updates will not be distributed via social media platforms such as Facebook, so please exercise caution and remain vigilant regarding the source and accuracy of information you may encounter on social media. We also encourage you to view the COVID-19 resource links posted at www.carlisleschools.org under the “What’s Happening” section of our website.
The health and safety of our community is a shared responsibility, and one that we take very seriously. As always, I appreciate your patience and support as we move forward together during this current challenge.

Sincerely,

Christina M. Spielbauer
Superintendent
